Job Description:

McKinley Children’s Center is a highly respected child welfare organization, conveniently located near Los Angeles and Orange County in the city of San Dimas, with 4 other locations throughout Southern California. McKinley Children’s Center’s comprehensive array of programs and services - which touch nearly 1,500 lives annually - include Residential Treatment, Foster Care, Adoptions, Mental Health Services and Special Education. McKinley is nationally accredited, licensed by the California Department of Social Services and is certified by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Our environment is highly therapeutic with many opportunities for activities with the children. Our beautiful 30 acre campus has a large covered outdoor basketball court, Olympic size pool, football/baseball field, play grounds, huge cafeteria, and a sports complex across the street which has baseball fields, tennis courts, and a running track.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Plan, organize and implement daily lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum.

  2. Conduct pre and post-testing using standardized tests for each student.

  3. As a part of a team, write and implement goals as outlined in each student's IEP.

  4. Be responsible for managing the student behavior in the classroom.

  5. Complete reports as required.

  6. Demonstrate competency in all subject areas and schedule the classroom day to include instruction in all curriculum areas.

  7. Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Meetings.

  8. Supervise Instructional Aides assigned to the classroom.

  9. Actively participate in the agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) plan

  10. Assume other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Current California Intern/Preliminary/Clear Moderate/Severe Special Education Credential

  2. Special education teaching experience in non-public schools highly preferred

  3. Experience working with students with ED, LH, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. strongly recommended

COMPUTER/OFFICE SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Microsoft Office

  2. General Office Skills

  3. Excellent Reading and Writing Skills

  4. Self-Starter and ability to work independently

PHYSICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must pass pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screening

  2. Ability to commute to various sites

  3. Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds, and may assist, move or restrain students with great weight when required to intervene in student safety issues

  4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak

  5. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer
