Job Description:

McKinley Children’s Center is a highly respected child welfare organization, conveniently located near Los Angeles and Orange County in the city of San Dimas, with 4 other locations throughout Southern California. McKinley Children’s Center’s comprehensive array of programs and services - which touch nearly 1,500 lives annually - include Residential Treatment, Foster Care, Adoptions, Mental Health Services and Special Education. McKinley is nationally accredited, licensed by the California Department of Social Services and is certified by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Our environment is highly therapeutic with many opportunities for activities with the children. Our beautiful 30 acre campus has a large covered outdoor basketball court, Olympic size pool, football/baseball field, play grounds, huge cafeteria, and a sports complex across the street which has baseball fields, tennis courts, and a running track.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Ensure that the Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialists (MHRS) and Residential Clinical staff are in full regulatory compliance and that clinical services are delivered in accordance with recognized best practices.

  2. Provide supervision for MHRS and Residential Clinical staff in accordance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards and agency policy.

  3. Provide clinical services to the residential program residents and families as needed.

  4. Demonstrate an ability to set limits and intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the children and families served.

  5. Support the intake function of the agency by active clinical oversight of all residential admissions to ensure appropriateness of placement.

  6. Work with other Department managers to increase clear communication and mutual support between programs.

  7. Monitor and assure adherence of programs to all governing bodies.

  8. Monitor care records to assure that required treatment documentation is included and meets agency and professional standards.

  9. Monitor the milieu for resident safety and work collaboratively with the inter-disciplinary treatment team to develop and implement therapeutic interventions to enhance the safety of all residents.

  10. Monitor and review all agency protocols and practices, including containments, one-on-ones and hospitalizations.

  11. Assist Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialists in developing treatment goals which utilize the expertise of child care staff, ensure quality services and are sensitive to cultural issues.

  12. Serve as a liaison with the Departments of Child and Family Services and Mental Health.

  13. Ensure that the Clinical Services Department is in full regulatory compliance and that clinical services are delivered in accordance with recognized best practices.

  14. Provide clinical supervision for Clinical staff in accordance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards and agency policy.

  15. Assist Clinicians in developing treatment plans which utilize the expertise of child care staff, ensure quality services and are sensitive to cultural issues.

  16. Actively participate in the agency’s Program Quality Improvement (PQI) program.

  17. Other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Master’s Degree

  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience working in DMH-contracted mental health settings

  3. 5 years supervisory experience

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other office-related software

  2. Possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills

  3. Detail oriented and organized

  4. Able to work independently and organize multiple projects with minimum supervision

  5. Able to work as a team member

  6. Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professional boundaries with clients and staff

  7. Able represent the agency professionally and appropriately with all constituencies

PHYSICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must pass pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screening

  2. Ability to commute to various sites on and off campus

  3. Ability to work extended hours as needed

  4. Ability to physically restrain children (if needed)

CLEARANCES REQUIRED:

  1. DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index

  2. Insurability under Corporate Automobile Insurance
